This Friday, March 1st, the Nebraska Nite Hawks will be taking part in the third annual Tackle Reading Across America initiative by reading to schools in the Millard, Bellevue, and Benson districts. Tackle Reading Across America is a program in which the NFL and the WNFC, the first women’s professional tackle football league, promote reading for kids and elementary schools in their local communities. Athletes will read football themed books to Kindergarten classes and tackle stereotypes surrounding women and football. These books will be donated to the classrooms at the end of the event. The Nite Hawks will be present at Laura Dodge Elementary from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., Belvedere Elementary School from 2 - 3 p.m., and Chandler View Elementary from 3 - 4 p.m.
The WNFC Nebraska Nite Hawks are a professional women’s tackle football team new to the Omaha area which features 11 on 11 full tackle football under NCAA rules. They are part of the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC), which is also in its inaugural season. The WNFC’s mission is to create and foster an environment for female athletes to sustain healthy lifestyles through playing, coaching, and participating in American football at the highest level.
The Nite Hawks begin pre-season play on March 23rd, 2019 against the Kansas City Storm at Faiman Field at Bellevue West High School. Their first WNFC game is on April 6th when they host the Denver Bandits at Home. Individual and season tickets are on sale now on their website.
