Today it is our honor to announce that women's competitive tackle football will be coming back to Nebraska. With the creation of the Nebraska Nite Hawks, they look to fill a void that has left many previous women's football players without a place to call home. The Nite Hawks will join the the WNFC - Women's National Football Conference.
The Nite Hawks will fill the void left by the Nebraska Stampede, who were the first women's professional tackle football team in the Omaha area. Founded in 2010, the team played up until 2014 in the WFA. In 2014 the team joined the IWFL and played its final season in 2016.
The Nite Hawks are named in tribute to the Omaha Nighthawks, a professional men's football team which played in the United Football League. The Omaha Nighthawks played their final season in 2012. The newly formed Women's Nite Hawks team, is paying tribute to the former men's team by honoring their colors of Black and Grey, but adding a bright yellow and royal blue to their brand.
Players are currently being recruited for the 2019 season. Our coaching staff is currently holding player development trainings for any female athlete in the Omaha area who is interested in playing professional tackle football. Eligible players must identify as female, be over the age of 18 and residpreferably within a 60-90 mile radius of the Omaha metro area.
